Additives

Additives are added to the liquid epoxy resin mixture to produce special product properties for processing: for example, better sandability, trowelability or - especially for the underwater hull - a natural biocide (copper).

Cotton - has a thickening effect and increases impact and tensile strength.
Talc - serves as a filler and improves subsequent sandability.
Glass - serves as a filler and increases the elastic stability of repair areas.
Thixo - has a thickening effect and increases the adhesive strength, also acs as a binding agent.
Copper - has a natural oxydating effect against antifouling (biocidal effect).

Depending on the requirements, different mixing ratios are used (table). Please observe the technical data sheet as well as the safety instructions ('Appendices').

Subcategories

  • Talc

Talc consists of natural, ground magnesium silicate ('soapstone'). This is used as a filler to obtain paste-like putties that are later to be sanded smooth.

    Talc (magnesium silicate).

  • Cotton

Cotton flocks thicken the low-viscosity epoxy resin and increase the impact and tensile strength of the material. Once added, they dissolve completely in the resin.

    Cotton flocks.

  • Glass

Glass fibre is used in combination with epoxy resin for the elastic reinforcement of repair areas. This creates glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GRP).

    Fibre glass chips (3mm).

  • Thixo

Thixotropic agent thickens the low-viscosity epoxy resin and acts as a binder. It increases the adhesion and improves the hardening properties. Furthermore, it is necessary when using copper, as otherwise the copper particles would flow off inside the resin during processing.

    Thixotropic agent (silicic acid).

  • Copper

Due to natural oxidation, copper has a biocidal effect. In epoxy resin, the copper particles remain permanently bound, but act against unwanted fouling.

    Copper powder (Cu) <45µm.
